For those who knew Pat deMoulpied, aka deMope, I have some sad news to share, and that is that she died last May at the age of 78. A little background: I met Pat during freshman year in Revell-Holton. We roomed together our sophomore year in Weston, then again our senior year, when the Weston girls moved to the new Hibbard Hall. We kept in touch when we went off to college and even beyond that. We sent birthday and Christmas greetings and letters, and later we used email and the internet. We even managed to get together when she came back to New England a couple of times. She had lived in Australia with her partner, Ian, for probably over 50 years and even developed a true Aussie accent. The first time I saw her again after she had lived there a while was in 2002. She said to me, “You ni-vah chynge!”
However, recently I stopped hearing from her. The last email I got was around Christmas 2023. Because I wasn’t getting any response by email, I wrote a snail-mail letter in December 2024. One day in January I had a bright idea and put her sister’s name into a Facebook search. I found her quickly and sent off an email right away! Debby remembered me and told me that Pat had passed away last May. I also got an email reply (to the snail-mail letter I had sent) from Ian’s cousin/Power of Attorney. He told me Pat died on May 24, 2024, after a long illness. Then Ian also died, just this January 26, 2025. There were no services and no formal obituary for Pat, just as she had requested. Her ashes were buried on their farm down there in Australia. May she rest in peace.
